Knowing Your Market

Throughout our tenure in the screen-printing universe, we’ve seen our fair share of start-ups, fresh off the streets or out of the classroom with the sole intention of taking over the clothing world with their new line.  Though we’ve helped some get off the ground like Matix and DVS among others, unfortunately, most of the times, all the good intentions transition swiftly to waste due to a misunderstanding of exactly what shops should be approached when building a distribution network.

The Importance of Proper Purchase Orders

A few posts ago, we took you through the screen-printing process the "right" way.  There were a few steps in there that could have their own posts unto themselves aaaaaaaand, this is the first of those.  Let's talk about the purchase order. Most screen-printers countrywide use the Pantone Matching System, aka “PMS” System.  No laughing, please. ;)  Colors are numbered using a simple 3 or 4 digit sequential numbering system.  For example, a somewhat standard red is a red 185.  A standard navy would be a blue 282. Here’s a picture of what one of Pantone’s books looks like.   When you pick up yours, be sure to get the “Solid Coated” version as they make a great deal of different books. ...

Anatol Showing at ISS Long Beach

Over the weekend, one of our designs took center stage as it was used to highlight the printing capabilities of Anatol's new machines at the ISS show in Long Beach.  Being the only booth with lines forming around it to pick up a shirt and printers from around the States asking how we did it, I think we had a pretty good showing.  Here's a side by side comparison of the design in its digital phase along with a photo of the final printed version here at the shop before the show.   For all of those asking, no, it was not a waterbased print.  This was done using all plastisols from...

Two Simple Requests = One Happy Client – A “Brush Up” For Brokers

Two Simple Requests = One Happy Client – A “Brush Up” For Brokers Artwork seems to be that ever-elusive variable which, more often than not, turns out to be the reason your job printed so well or the reason it all wound up in shambles.  As with anything, a little knowledge goes a long way and as they say, we’re about to drop some knowledge on ya! So, your job is all set to go, the printer is ready to get your gig scheduled to print and they’re waiting on you to send them the art.  You’ve approved your art from your artist and get in touch with him/her to have them send the files...
